Our A-Z of 2020 Caching Tales
But just before we wave goodbye, here’s a quick trip down memory lane...our A-Z of the highs and lows of our 2020 Caching Tales!
A is all about Adventure Labs. We set our first ever AL series ‘Mildenhall Murder Mystery’. It’s a whodunnit taking in some key sights around the town. And if you solve the crime, there’s a difficulty 5 bonus cache up for grabs.
B is for ‘Blown Over’. A rather old virtual cache in Boscastle, which took nearly an hour to complete. I must have read several hundred bits of graffiti trying to find the correct initials & date needed. But it was great to fill another gap on our Jasmer Challenge grid.
C is for Covid...just joking! I think we’ve all had enough of hearing about that! C is actually for Challenge Cache. We’ve achieved a few this year, including the ‘200 Hidden Months’ cache up a giant Cornish hill, and ‘EPPs High Five’ near Isleham.
D is for Don’t Die Hard with a Vengeance. The best cache of the year. If you love James Bond and fancy being a secret agent for 20 minutes, this one in Ely is a must do!
E is for Euston Bridges 10. A Big Bad John cache, who is known for setting tricky bridge caches. Here I enjoyed the annual shoes and socks off caching moment, and a paddle in the freezing river, under a low, dark road bridge, to grab the cache.
F is for Forest hack. ‘Linnet & Shadow’s Forest Hack’ to be exact - a reprise of the trail around the forest at Weeting. The caches were really inventive and some were incredibly challenging to find.
G is for Grand Canyon Bug Cacher. One of the most memorable moments of our holiday to Nevada and Arizona this year. The canyon really is a sight to behold.
H is for Harling. The excellent West Harling Walk series, which I enjoyed doing over a couple of visits with Bobby the dog and my nieces 3ft and 4ft. Lots of very clever customs and hides. We loved it.
I is for Isleham. Another creative FF series Priory Perambulation. It had it all from custom sticks, snails, caterpillars and an interesting field puzzle.
J is all about Jiggy Jive and jigsaws. This fun series of mystery caches in Norfolk, had lots of jigsaws to solve and helped me achieve the Memory Lane souvenirs in double quick time. It was a really enjoyable walk, just after the 1st UK lockdown ended.
K is for Kingdom. A series of Adventure Labs in Swaffham based on the hit TV series. It cleverly took in several filming locations around the town centre.
L takes us back to Las Vegas. We found loads of great caches in the city that never sleeps. They included virtuals like the famous Welcome to Las Vegas sign and Toga Party and a great lab cache series around Downtown Vegas.
M is for those mad yellow, much loved Minions! RYO62 and HeidiRose4789’s One in a Minion geoart series, comprising of 107 mystery caches. In addition to all the great puzzles, it’s a great walk through the Beds and Herts countryside.
N is for Narborough Notification. A particularly memorable Norfolk series, as it was the last walk I did before the Covid chaos hit and the country was plunged into weeks of lockdown, with no caching unless it was within walking distance from home.
O is for Oliver’s Way Wander. A creative series of caches around Kenninghall in Norfolk. Lots of great custom caches, and a nice length walk.
P is all about Porthpean’s Wherigos. ‘Life’s a beach Porthpean’ & ‘Play your cards right’. Both were original and great fun to do and the final caches were creative hides...one up a tower!
Q is for Quarrymen. The ‘Slate Quarrymen of Tintagel’ to be exact. Another great series set along Cornwall’s north coast, cliff tops. The custom caches included a stoat, a bird and a hollowed out chunk of slate. Just brilliant.
R is dedicated to ‘Rede and Back’. I managed to grab a fair number of FTFs and the caches were so inventive. The carrot in the ground and Buddha were fantastic. The COs other series, Hawstead Church & Back is also brilliantly creative!
S takes us on a Stag’er around Lynford forest. A great series of traditional and challenge caches in Norfolk. Lots of quick finds and the odd tree climb.
T is for Thetford. I’ve made a couple of trips to the town this year to grab fun caches like the castle virtual and a new set of Adventure Labs based on the much loved TV sitcom, Dads Army.
U is for University depts: Music. A mystery cache in the depths of the historic city of Cambridge. Many mystery caches here are way beyond my puzzle solving skills. This one was clever, but do-able.
V is for virtual. I’ve mentioned a few already, but another noteworthy one was at the Bickford-Smith Scientific and Literary Institute in Cornwall. The building is like something out of a fairytale. A must see.
W is for Waves Winter Wildlife Walk and Whelnetham Walk. Two brilliant caching series in Norfolk and Suffolk, with lots of original custom caches.
X is for an Xtra high cache. The utterly brilliant virtual at the top of the Stratosphere in Las Vegas, ‘watch that first step!’ If you’re brave enough I recommend it, the views across Vegas are stunning!
Y is for Yaxley Yippee. And all the many, many brilliant series’ set by Poshrule that I’ve done this year. They’re all so well maintained and have added hundreds of smileys to my profile.
Z is for Zoo. Dartmoor Zoo to be precise, and the delightful ‘Animals Are Us’ tiger cache in the car park. A very appropriate and unique custom cache.
That’s it...and barely a mention of anti bac, masks, viruses or lockdowns!
A big thank you to all the COs for creating and setting all of these great caches and series, we thoroughly enjoyed them all.
Happy new year! Let’s hope 2021 is much safer, so that we can all get out and about lots more, and travel further afield again, on lots of new caching adventures.
