How to find your first Geocache!

Image
When I’m out Geocaching I often get asked what I’m doing as I dive into a bush!  When I tell them, they look surprised and puzzled. Most have never heard of it and I suspect they thought I was going for a wee!  To reassure them, I explain what Geocaching is, which gave me the idea for this post.  What is Geocaching?  Geocaching is a worldwide treasure hunt. You use a GPS device/phone to locate a Geocache. Once found, you log it. What is a Geocache?  A Geocache can be almost anything. There are several different types, but here we’ll focus on the most common: a traditional Geocache, which is a physical container. A traditional Geocache can be as small as a fingernail or as big as an oven, occasionally they’re even larger! They can be hidden anywhere, but are usually located on public rights of way. With the dawn of a new year, it’s time to take a quick look back at 2022. It was another year of high and lows but many of the highs involved our favourite hobby of Geocaching. Once again we went on countless Geocaching adventures, creating lots of fun memories and experiencing the very best of the great outdoors, here in the UK and overseas. Here’s our A-Z of some of the best bits of our 2022 Caching Tales!  A is for Abbey Gardens  the location of a brilliant new virtual at the old abbey ruins in Bury st Edmunds. B is for Beach litter pick , a CITO we took part in at Clacton-on-sea. We had a great time wandering along the sandy beach picking up old kids spades, bottle tops and even flip flops! And the ‘after CITO drinks’ party at the nearby hotel, was great fun too.  C is for Crimplesham Cadence,  anoth...

Well what a year that was! We finally bid farewell to face masks and Covid lockdowns. We were able to holiday abroad again. We nearly won Eurovision. We did win the woman’s footie Euro Cup, and I ended up in the middle of hurricane Ian, Florida’s worst hurricane for 87 years (along with a few other tourists, bonkers enough to go to Florida in hurricane season!) But aside from the highs and lows of international competitions and freak weather, we had another great Geocaching year. Once again we journeyed to towns and cities across the UK and beyond, to discover so many great caches. But which were the best?…. After a trip down memory lane I managed to finally come up with our favourite geocaches of 2022 - those we found the most fun, inventive and memorable. Here they are:  1. SallyMINEder. (Traditional, Trewillis, Cornwall) CO: Soapy Cove. 2. ‘The Hotspot’. (Webcam, Exmouth, Devon) CO: Davy Boy.  3. Free Freddy. (Mystery, Ely, Cambs). CO: Shadyone44 & Danielk1bg ...
