Caching Tales

We kicked off the second half of our trip to Las Vegas with a day trip to see the magnificent Grand Canyon. Last time we visited we never got to see it, but having seen so many of the big sights in the city already we felt we could spare a day of our holiday for a visit. Usually, whilst on holiday, we hire a car for a few days, especially as we like to get out and find a few caches. But as we were only in Vegas for a week, and seeing how manic traffic was on the strip, we decided to have a more relaxing day trip by coach.  It turned out to be the longest coach trip we’ve ever been on - over 15 hours! There is no other place on Earth where you can see a volcanoe erupting, a giant Egyptian pyramid, the Statue of Liberty, Eiffel Tower, and even rollercoasters plunging of sky scraping buildings all within a mile of each other. There is no other place quite like Vegas! Yes this week we’re living it up Viva Las Vegas style in order to celebrate the other half’s historic milestone...his 40th birthday. With so much to see and do 24:7 in the city that never sleeps...and it really doesn’t, even at four in the morning you’ll find people wandering along it’s brightly lit streets as if it was the middle of the day, and others starring goggle eyed at brightly spinning slot machine wheels...you might ask who needs geocaching? Well actually, I do. I can’t live without a regular caching fix no matter where I am. And to be honest I do enjoy finding them abroad in popular tourist hot spots as there tends to be a lot more virtuals and earthcaches and Vegas was no exception. ...

Having spent so much of December and January travelling out to Huntingdon and Peterborough to hunt for caches, I decided to spend a few weeks a bit closer to home.  The wet winter weather had taken its toll on a lot of my own geocaches, and as the reports of wet logs and broken containers continued to come in, I realised it was time for a few CO visits. First up were repairs to the wooded section of the Wind in the Willows trail and who better to accompany me than my dad’s dog Bobby. He’d been couped up more than usual lately due to both my parents experiencing some health problems, hence he was incredibly excited when I arrived at the door armed with my geocaching bag, dog treats and his water bowl. Parking up half way along the trail, we set off along the orange sandy track into the woods.
