Third time lucky, a postman’s nightmare and the incredible Spaceman

This week, I had some time off work and nothing planned, so it was a great opportunity to get out doing lots of Geocaching. The weather was fantastic too, which always makes Geocaching a bit more fun. I had my sights set on a few local series’, but also managed to fit in a trip further afield to the seaside.     First up was another visit to Cambridgeshire and Essex to grab some more in the epic EHB series and the short linear series nearby named after the local road, ‘B1038’.  I arrived at the first section around midday when the roads were pretty quiet, so I decided to grab as many by car as I could, in order to make more of a dent in both series’.    Lots of quick finds followed along the narrow country roads, and at most GZ’s there was a place to pull-in– I only had to run back for a few.     A few hours later, having had enough of jumping in and out of a car, I decided to head to nearby Newport and have another crack at the Wherigo there, called ‘...

Finding my first Snag the Tag, the fox, and mixing footie with Geocaching

Whilst I love Geocaching, I’m always looking for new ways to add to the excitement of my hobby.  It was whilst reading a HQ blog that I discovered the side game of Snag the Tag and I was immediately hooked. As a fan of trackables and geocoins, this game is perfect for me, as it involves hiding and finding tags, and then redeeming the codes for an accompanying coin. The tags and coins are also beautifully made and lovely to collect. During the High and Low Snag the Tag game, which had tags featuring a magnetic Signal the Frog on a Mars rover and in a Submarine, I was a hider of both tags and it was great fun trying to think up a good location to hide each tag in keeping with the theme of each game.  When the next game launched soon afterwards called, ‘No More Secrets’, I decided to get involved again, but this time buying just one hider pack – the Silver Bullet - and hoped that I might be able to find the second, golden Honey Pot tag.  I hid my first Silver Bullet tag just...

Appreciating Geocache hiders and a trip to Walton-on-the-Naze

As you’ll have read in my last blog, I recently set a few new geocaches around Barrow in Suffolk, along with a new adventure lab series. However, it was only the other day that I realised I had been awarded the 2022 hider souvenir after they went live. It’s the first time I’ve seen this souvenir and I think it’s a great idea for rewarding those who invest so much of their time in setting caches for the enjoyment of others to find.   As I’ve mentioned in my blog before, being a Geocache hider these days – during the pandemic and post pandemic – hasn’t been the most rewarding experience. The pandemic seemed to bring with it a massive surge in newbie Geocachers, many of whom sadly didn’t learn the social etiquette of Geocaching and who often had little to no comprehension of the efforts hiders go to, to place and maintain Geocaches for them find.  The most annoying of these newbie faux pas was that many of them hadn’t learnt what type of log to use, and in the case of several of ...
